Andrew de Sa

Painter.

Andrew de Sa is a nationally awarded painter with a focus on sacred, narrative and decorative works.

Featured work:

“Odysseus and the Winnowing Oar”

Commissioned as a class gift for Trinity at Meadowview School, Falls Church VA. The painting portrays a passage from Homer’s Odyssey. The faculty of the school selected the imagery and weighed in on the composition. Our studio designed the custom African mahogany frame in collaboration with Gerald Twigg of Silver Spring, MD.

“Eva Ave Nova Ave”

Completed using mineral paints on a cement panel, this piece was inspired by patristic texts and was painted as an homage to the Madonna Lactans of the Priscilla catacombs.

“Good Shepherd”

Completed using mineral paints on cement panel, this image is inspired by frescos of the Good Shepherd in the Christian catacombs of Rome. While painting this, I was planting and seeding during the Triduum, hence the sower and passion motif.

“St. Joseph of the Way”

Commissioned for the + Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge, Bishop of the Diocese of Arlington. The cherry wood frame was designed in collaboration with and hand-carved by Sean Wilson of Saskatoon, Canada.

“Saint Jerome at Study”

Commissioned by a school community this collage work contains hundreds of pieces of painted paper. A large print of the painting welcomes students at St. Jerome Academy in Hyattsville, MD and the original hangs in the adjoining church.

“The Salvation Triptych”

A work of public sacred art that went on view in downtown Washington D.C. on K st. before being installed in a private chapel (not pictured)

Night Shroud

Private residence in Washington, D.C.

The patron who commissioned this piece was looking for a centerpiece for their home and a talking point for their dining room. The patron helped develop the concept for the piece and renovated the room to compliment.
